Excavation Services in Boise and the Treasure Valley
Most projects that involve the ground need an excavator at some point. A new house needs a foundation dug. A shop needs power run to it. A yard that floods every spring needs regrading. A burst water line needs to be dug up and replaced, fast.
We're a local excavation company based in Caldwell, and we work in Boise, Meridian, Nampa, Eagle, Kuna, Star, Middleton, Caldwell, Parma and Homedale. Our customers are homeowners, builders, pool companies, landscapers and business owners.
Excavation Services We Offer
Foundation and site excavation
Digging for new homes, additions, shops and garages, including crawlspaces, slabs and basements. We work from the builder's plans and the surveyor's stakes so the foundation crew can start forming without fixing our hole first. See site excavation and foundation excavation.
Trenching and utilities
Trenches for water, sewer, power, gas and irrigation lines. Each line has its own depth and bedding rules, set by the utility, your plumber or your electrician, and we dig to those numbers. See trenching services, water line excavation, sewer line excavation and utility excavation.
Septic systems
Tank and drainfield installation for homes outside city sewer. The health district permit comes first, and the system gets built to the layout and depths on that permit. See septic system installation.
Pools
In-ground pool digs for homeowners and pool builders. The pool builder sets the shape, depth and steps, and we dig to their layout. A pool dig makes a big pile of dirt, so it helps to decide early how much stays on the lot and how much gets hauled. See swimming pool excavation.
Site prep, grading and drainage
Clearing, leveling, compaction, drainage fixes and finish grading. This is the work that decides whether a slab stays flat and whether water runs away from the house or toward it. See site preparation and grading and drainage excavation.
Removal and hauling
Concrete breakout, dirt hauling, demolition and debris removal. Common jobs include an old patio or driveway that's being replaced, extra fill left over from a dig, and a lot that needs clearing after a teardown. See concrete breaking and hauling and dirt hauling.
Augering
Holes for fence posts, deck footings, pole barns and signs. Augered holes come out round, straight and the same depth, which matters when a long fence line or a row of pole barn posts has to line up. See augering.
How an Excavation Project Works With Us
1. Call or send a request
Tell us what you're trying to do. Photos and plans help. So does the address, a rough size, and any deadline you're working toward, like a concrete pour or an inspection. Most of the time you'll be talking with Tanner.
2. Site visit and estimate
We look at the job in person when it makes sense. Estimates are free. On some jobs we give more than one option. One customer whose main water line burst said Tanner "gave me three different quote options and explained everything in detail."
3. Locates and permits
We call Digline (811) at least two business days before we dig, as Idaho law requires. Permits depend on the job. Building permits, septic permits from the health district and grading permits are the common ones.
4. The work
We dig to the plan, keep the site safe, and keep you updated. Trenches and holes 5 feet or deeper that people work in get sloped, benched or shored under OSHA rules. If we run into something the estimate didn't plan for, like buried concrete or an old tank, we talk it through with you before going further.
5. Backfill and cleanup
We backfill, compact, grade and clean up before we leave. Backfill goes back in layers so the ground doesn't sink later. The estimate spells out who handles lawn, sprinkler or concrete repair.
Local Ground Conditions
Treasure Valley soil changes a lot from one neighborhood to the next. Caliche and hardpan are common under Meridian, Nampa and Kuna. There's basalt close to the surface in parts of Southeast Boise and Kuna. Near the Boise River in Eagle and Garden City, you'll find river cobble and groundwater that rises during irrigation season. The foothills have decomposed granite and steep slopes. Knowing what's likely under a given lot helps us bid accurately and avoid surprises.
What Excavation Costs in Boise
Most excavation is priced by the job, based on the size and depth of the work, the soil, access, how much material has to be hauled, and restoration like backfill and grading. Rock and caliche take longer to dig. Tight backyard access takes smaller equipment and more time. We break the estimate out so you can see where the money goes.
How to Choose an Excavation Contractor
- Check the registration. Idaho contractors must be registered with the state. Ours is RCE-65836.
- Read reviews. Look for comments about communication and showing up when promised, not just the finished work.
- Get it in writing. A clear estimate should say what's included, like hauling, backfill and restoration.
- Ask about locates and safety. Any contractor should call 811 before digging and protect deep trenches.
