Big jobs need a lot of material, and that material has to get there. We haul gravel, road base, sand, topsoil and fill to your site, spread it where it belongs, and haul away what doesn't stay.
Bulk Material Hauling in Boise and the Treasure Valley
A driveway, a shop pad, a patio base and a backyard regrade all have one thing in common. They need a lot more material than anyone expects. A single truckload covers less ground than it looks like it will, and buying and moving it yourself is harder than it sounds.
We haul bulk material for homeowners, builders and landscapers in Boise, Meridian, Nampa, Eagle, Kuna, Star, Middleton and Caldwell.
What We Haul
- Road base and crushed gravel for driveways, lanes and pads
- Washed rock and drain rock for French drains and drainage
- Sand for pipe bedding, paver bases and fill
- Topsoil for lawns, garden beds and re-seeded areas
- Fill dirt for building up low spots and pads
- Cobble and decorative rock for landscaping and erosion control
Material In, Spoil Out
Some jobs are all delivery. Others pair a delivery with hauling away what was dug out. If we're digging for you, hauling the spoil is often part of the same job. For big loads of excess dirt, see our dirt hauling page. For old concrete, brush, lumber and other junk, see debris removal.
Figuring Out How Much You Need
Material is sold by the cubic yard or by weight. To estimate cubic yards, multiply the length by the width, in feet, then by the depth in feet, and divide by 27. A 12-by-40-foot pad with four inches of gravel works out to about six cubic yards. Gravel packs down when it's compacted, so most jobs need more than the math says. We can measure the area and tell you what to order.
Choosing the Right Material
The right material depends on what it's for.
- A driveway or lane base needs crushed rock that packs tight.
- A drainage trench needs clean, washed rock with no fines that would clog it.
- Under pipe, sand or fine gravel makes a soft, even bed.
- A planting bed needs topsoil with organic matter, not clay fill.
- A pad needs fill that compacts well and doesn't hold water.
If you're not sure, tell us what you're building and we'll point you in the right direction.
Common Jobs
- A gravel driveway or a new section of lane
- A pad for a shop, shed, RV or hot tub
- Base rock under a patio, walkway or slab
- Drain rock for a French drain or a wet spot
- Topsoil for a new lawn or planting beds
- Fill to bring up a low corner of the yard or fix a settled trench
Many of these jobs pair with work we already do, like excavation for driveways and grading and leveling, so one crew can dig, haul and spread.
Delivery and Placement
We can dump the material where you want it and spread it with equipment, instead of leaving a pile in your driveway to move by wheelbarrow. For a driveway or pad, we spread and shape it to grade. For a base under concrete or pavers, it goes in and gets compacted in layers. See soil compaction and topsoil spreading.
Access and Staging
Before a delivery, think about how a truck gets to the spot.
- Low power lines and tree limbs
- Narrow gates and tight turns
- Soft or wet ground, and septic tanks or drainfields that can't take the weight
- Driveways that can crack under a loaded truck
- HOA rules on trucks and work hours
We'll talk through the route and the best place to dump. Sometimes dumping at the street and moving it with a skid steer is the safer choice for your driveway.
Pricing
Material is priced by the yard or ton, and the haul is priced by distance, the number of loads and the time to spread. We'll give you a number before the truck shows up. Photos and rough measurements help us get you a starting estimate.
